Polish Heritage Month

Polish Heritage Month was first declared in 2021 to recognize the contributions made by the Polish Community. This event was first celebrated in Toronto on May 8, 2022 which was also the 231st anniversary of the Polish Constitution.

Polish Canadians have been very prominent figures in todays society. Some famous Polish Canadians include Wayne Gretzky, Adam Skorek (engineer) and Issac Hellmuth (one of the founders of Western University).

Poland has been an ally to Canada since the First World War and has has made large accomplishments since. The Second World War that lasted from 1939-1945 lead to Poland’s loss of political independence. It wasn’t till 1989 that Poland established democratic status.

May is to honour these contributions and acknowledge the rich history of Polish Canadians.
