Multicultural Heritage Society

Prince George Folkfest/Multicultural Society was formed in 1974 as an umbrella organization to create a home base for various cultural groups in Prince George and surrounding areas.

Originally, the Society was intended as a platform for staging a new country-wide multicultural event on July 1 to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

In 1985 the Society evolved to meet the ever changing  needs and aspirations of the cultural communities it serves.  During this process the Society changed its Constitution and Name to Multicultural Heritage Society of Prince George.

Mission Statement:
Serving the growing needs of our cultural diverse community

Vision Statement:
To achieve a just and equitable society

The Society’s expanded mandate includes implementation of the Federal and Provincial policies of multiculturalism and the promotion of cross-cultural relations. We are particularly committed to furthering the relationship between culture, heritage and public education in order to ensure the full participation of all individuals in the community.

The Society further functions as a Multicultural Information, Resources and Referral Centre for inquiries or contacts concerning:

  • Community services, cultural groups and artistic events
  • Anti-Racism and Human Rights issues
  • Certified translation /interpretation services (including legal documents)
